Diving is arguably the most exhilarating sport in the world.

You could say we’re biased for saying this. However, the thrill of exploring underwater beauty in the world’s vast waters and encountering all kinds of sea creatures is enough to make us forget the world on the surface.

You could say we’re biased for saying this. However, the thrill of exploring underwater beauty in the world’s vast waters and encountering all kinds of sea creatures is enough to make us forget the world on the surface.

There are so many stories of breathtaking encounters in the deep blue sea. One of our all-time favorites has to be that of Gary Grayson’s.

He’s an underwater thrill seeker by heart. After diving with sharks, dolphins and crocodiles on the Isle of Scilly, the 55-year old had the most heartwarming encounter yet.

“During the dive, he came face to face with a seal. This gray seal came across and had five minutes with me, kind of thing. Then another was climbing up my leg,”

Grayson told M.E.N.

“I’m an experienced diver but I have never known anything like that… I tend to live life on the edge. But this was certainly up there with anything I have ever done.”

The former haulage company said that he had often been the man behind the lens. This time around, he couldn’t resist going in for a long playtime with the adorable creature. “I’m usually the one with the camera but when I saw everyone had taken a shine to this seal I said, ‘you film, I want a go.’”

He’s been diving many years but considers this experience his most unforgettable yet. “I have been diving with seals before and had them buzzing around you before but I’ve never had one that stayed so close for that amount of time and was so friendly,” he explained. “It was amazing and something I’ll never forget – I have the video on my phone now and watch it all the time.”

He goes on to say: “In fact, I’ve probably bored all my friends going on about it.”

We’d probably do the same thing!
