A River in a collapsed limestone cenote cave was discovered, but how was this created?

 

It was formed by a phenomenon known as halocline. Halocline, vertical zone in the oceanic water column in which salinity changes rapidly with depth, located below the well-mixed, uniformly saline surface water layer.
