The beauty of the ocean doesn’t only lie on its vastness. Sea creatures have become their own attraction.
We’ve seen plenty of whales, dolphins, fish and sharks doing the darnest things underwater. However, we just came across on what could be the cutest thing we’ve seen online.
In a recent viral video, an octopus is seen carrying two coconuts on each side. It notices the cameraman taking interest and awkwardly stumbles away, all the while holding on to the couple of husks. Towards the end of the video, it tries to slide in between the coconuts.
Well known for being masters of disguise, it’s no wonder why the octopus may want to hide and protect itself from the human being. Other analysts suggest that the octopus saw the two coconut husks as tools for future use. Separate reports have shown monkeys cracking nuts with rocks and bottleneck dolphins using sponges to dredge prey.
“It’s clear that there is no single way of using tools,” she says. “It’s a fascinating behavior, but it’s not a unitary behavior,” Jennifer Mather, a professor of psychology and neuroscience noted.
As for the luck guy who caught the entire action on tape, he recalls it as one of the funniest experiences he ever had underwater. “I just had to do my best to suppress my laughter, keeping my teeth clenched around my regulator and hope that the seawater wouldn’t be sucked back into my lungs. While, of course, keeping the camera steady,” Julian Finn said.
Whatever the purpose the octopus had in mind, it’s downright adorable!
